PM says Moldova stops gas purchases from Gazprom
CHISINAU, Mar 23 (PRIME) -- Moldovan energy company Moldovagaz bought gas from Russia's Gazprom for four days in March, then ended the purchases, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said on Thursday.
Moldovagaz CEO Vadim Ceban said on Monday that the company resumed gas imports from Gazprom after a three-month pause. Before that, all gas was consumed by Transnistria, while Chisinau used its reserves. Transnistria reduced its consumption strongly in March thanks to a warmer weather, this is why Chisinau used some of its gas.
"Moldovagaz tried to resume these deliveries for Moldova, but they were stopped immediately. Moldova no longer consumes Gazprom’s gas," Recean said.
